Dragon Recycling|The 2020 International Volunteer Day Recycling Campaign was successfully held

Dec.14.2020

On December 5th, Shanghai Roots & Shoots collaborated with East Nanjing Road Youth League Committee on the International Volunteer Day Recycling Campaign. Under great support of the committee, a total of 157 volunteers and KEROKEROKEROPPI – Shanghai Roots & Shoots’ Green Ambassador, joined community members and started recycling in 14 neighborhoods, encouraging participation from every member to give back to Earth through real action.

The activity attracted many residents. A total of 1552.69 kg used goods was recycled, and residents who recycled were able to get environmental-friendly goods in return. This form of exchange was really popular.

The large amount of used goods collected from that date ranged from clothes to plastics. After being sorted by Shishang Recycling, they will become valuable resources and be sent to waste recovery enterprises. The used goods will then be made into various new products, such as notebooks and shopping bags.

This activity really focused on emphasizing the concept of a low-carbon lifestyle, showing this concept in the digitization of materials, the recycling of flyers, the reduction of purchases, etc. The recycling from that date contributed to about a reduction of 1731.79 kg CO2 emissions. Shanghai Roots & Shoots will also use the gains from this activity to plant shrubs in Ningxia and offset part of the carbon emissions.

The success of this seemingly simple activity depended on the contribution of various sectors. Nanjing East Road neighborhood has been supporting different environmental projects and public service activities for a long time and has given Shanghai Roots & Shoots a lot of help and recognition. Not only that, the partners of Shanghai Roots & Shoots have also sent out teams of volunteers and offered material support and media publicization. The recycling work is completed by Shishang Recycling.

Recycling is a simple move, but the communication relevant to recycling has given volunteers more opportunities to spread knowledge about environmental protection and zero-waste lifestyle. This Dragon Recycling activity was very successful and will provide experience and confidence for our future projects and volunteers.

Here we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Nanjing East Road Working Committee.
