YES | Nature Exploration Carnival 2018

Apr.25.2018

On April 14 2018, the thirty-seventh Shanghai Bird-Loving Week (also the fourth session of the Wild Carnival) was successfully held in Chang Feng Park.

Bird-Loving Week was originated in 1981, which was first established for the protection of the migrant birds between China and Japan. During the activities in Bird-Loving Week, the annual Wild Carnivals haves been symbolically held for the fourth year with the participance of various international organizations. Such activities also give us an opportunity and a platform to enjoy the beauty of nature in a more intriguing and beneficial way.

Shanghai Roots & Shoots, as a non-profit organization which is long devoted to the development of sustainable education, exhibits its achievements at the Wild Carnival every year, inviting the public to get involved in its YES Program. This year, the “Bird Watching Record” has been newly developed and launched at the carnival, and the traditional “Say ‘No’ to plastic bags” campaign highly hit as well.

During the carnival, Shanghai Roots & Shoots also designed stickers of eight species of common birds. With the help of the reading materials like “Birds around Us” published by the Shanghai Wildlife Conservation Association, participants were able to match the stickers to the names printed on their “Bird-Watching Reports”. This aroused attention to the birds around us and the interests in observing their natural behaviours.

Shanghai Roots & Shoots’ seeding bags also became a highly popular item on site. The bags were designed for an easier observation on the process of plants’ germination and growth. The preparation was also very simple – a piece of tissue and a tiny zip bag, some seeds and a stapler.

Now, enjoy your time!
