Dragon Recycling | DIY Pet Cushion Workshop

Piles of old clothes at home must be a trouble that everyone often encounters. The unwanted clothes will become a waste of textile resources (such as cotton, linen, polyester, etc.) and become the burden of urban garbage disposal. What’s worse is that it will be a tough problem in household as a waste of space, a cradle of bacteria, fungi, and parasites, etc.

On March 10, 2024, to solve the problem of disposal of used clothes, volunteers from Shanghai Roots & Shoots gathered in our office and transformed their old sweatshirts into soft and cute pet cushions. While reducing the waste of old clothes, we also made a “new” nest for the pets at home.

“Renovating old clothes is very environmentally friendly and builds an earth that humans, cats and dogs love and live together.” This is the feeling of our volunteer Yu Minli after completing the cushion.

This time it was a test for our volunteers to renovate old items. We also made an easy-to-go manual step by step. Our volunteers hope that more people will join in the future, with the intention of reducing waste. They can not only make a small gift for their own pets, but also call for more people to make and donate cushions for the animal shelters.
