It was not the first time for the groups in R&S to collect Starbucks cups and recycle them for an exhibition, but for us, this exhibition was a quite new attempt. Considering the current development situation of our school and the group, I changed the original idea to a new one——CAEC.
Our main idea was to show all the students and teachers an environmentally-friendly concept by exhibiting reprocessed cups, which is actually a very simple intention. But it eventually turned out to be a hard one greatly beyond my expectation with piles and piles of trouble.
Activities as follows:
- A)Collection 11.27-12.07
Five teams with a total of 16 people, who were willing to get involved, were sent more than 8 Starbucks stores to collect cups and disseminate the environmental-friendly ideas. We finally collected 142 cups in total.
On 12.04, student leaders exchanged their own experience and feelings with other members at the sharing session.
- B)Distributeand Reprocess 12.01-12.17
In terms of the fact that few of us had the ability and willingness to decorate the cups successfully, we turned to others for help. But in the consideration of the lack of time and the difficulty to gather more students to paint the cups and get them
back, we decided to decorate 45% of all the cups collected, of which 25 were sent to Creativity Club. But the result was went far beyond what i expected. All of the cups except 2 were destroyed (maybe it is a complicated art which i can not understand ). I was so pissed off because I had to change my plan completely. Then half of the remaining cups were sent to the junior department of our school. We asked the literary member of each class to draw the cups. At the same time, the other cups were distributed to DACHUs(who are good at painting) and Chinese Cultural Club in the Senior Department.
The rest of the cups were used to build the cup tower. Christmas was approaching at that time, however, we only had time collect the red cups instead of the white ones. At first, I was extremely worried about the feeback of the exhibition because only had red cups might have a series of bad influences on public appeal and visual impact. Meanwhile, the number of the cups collected was far greater than the number of those that could be reprocessed. How to win with RED? Some ideas occurred to me. There were always some towers made up of the goods for sales promotion in supermarkets. If we use the red cups to build a Christmas tree to attract the attention of the students, we would win with RED! After the practice, RED really brought us a satisfying success.
Every one was amazed at the cup tower. But there were some problems with it. The cup tower was no doubt appealing to students but it also brought some misuderstandings upon us. Although besides the cup tower stood the panels on which all detail and description of the activity were written, students passing just took a glance at it carelessly. We were constantly being questioned either whether we bought the cups on our own or why we make this kind of commercial ads for Starbucks during the exhibition.
