This semester, we have conducted a project, called “recycling of express boxes” and we will make it be our stable project.

Due to the fact that so much express is sent to our school in daily life, and they are always thrown into rubbish bins, which not only takes up too much place but also wastes resources as well as it is bad for the recycling of paperboard. In order to deal with this problem and to arouse students’ environmental awareness, we decide to start our project and perfect the recycling system in our school.
We have placed two recycling boxes on each floor (one for south building and the other one for north building) and two on the first floor of the dormitory building. We spent about 550 Yuan on 10 recycling boxes in total. We advocate students to throw

the express boxes in these recycling boxes through the broadcast and the mail. All of the students in our group have participated in the project and some of them move the express boxes to the place where we stack them and the other students unfold the express boxes. Then, some off-campus personnel will come and collect the express boxes regularly.

The project has been conducted for about one year, and students in our school have cooperated with us positively. We have received teachers’ great support as well. It has had a positive effect on the school environment and the recycling of resources.

But, what we have seen is just superficial phenomenon and we don’t know the exact rate of recycling which we should research into next semester. We decide to cooperate with a volunteer team in our school whose work is to deliver express to the students. We will collect some data to know how much express will be sent to our school and make a comparison with the number of express boxes which we have recycled. In addition, we plan to distribute questionnaires to students and teachers to know their views on our project. We hope we can improve our project gradually.

One student in our group said: In the process of recycling express boxes, I gradually realize the importance of environmental protection. This kind of experience taught me how to cooperate with others and let me know that 1+1>2.In all, I will keep on striving.

Another student said: It’s quite a significant thing to participate in this project although there’re some difficulties we need to overcome, for instance, sometimes there’re too many express boxes we have to deal with. But I know that the development of the environmental protection needs everyone’s effort and I have gained fun in the process of working.
