EVENT DETAILS:
Goals & Expectations: At the ongoing success of national greenery adoption activities, the Roots & Shoots group,Green Life Association in Shanghai University of Business and Economics(SUIBE), are responsible for organizing one of them. We contacted the “GREEN ON CAMPUS” committee and held an activity for greenery adoptions throughout the campus. With the help of Energy Efficiency Technology on Green Roof in China and Sina Weibo, we hope to arouse interest in small plants and convey environmental awareness.
Participation: There were 18 people that contributed in this event. They were divided into three sections : advance publicity(wrote articles for Weibo official accounts), seeds planting(planted seeds in specialized flowerpots) and demonstrations ( played roles of guidance that day).
Assistance:Weibo Association of SUIBE, Sina Weibo, China Greenish Foundation
Event scale and spot scene:We set a booth on the school square after class, attracting students to scan the QR code and follow the instructions on the web page, finally getting their own greenery and taking photos with them on hand.
On that very day, 93 pieces of specialized flowerpots were distributed to in around one and a half hour. Thanks to the well-prepared publicity, those cute small plants were so popular. Thus there were queues of students standing in front of our booth, waiting for joining us. With the demonstrations of R & S members, the activity went in good order.
Feedback:Students who got their greenery said that they will take good care of those little lives and pay attention to ecosystem from the nature recognition. Group members who devote themselves in this activity, especially for most of whom planted seeds in person, believed this was not only a fresh experience but also a part of improvement in life.
Major highlights:Our group members’ participation in seeds planting, and that of the first enjoyment of farming; this activity had a large target audience from freshmen to seniors.
Reflections:The lack of botany knowledge. For example, one of group members became speechless when a student asked notices for daily care of adopted plants. This occasion reflected our negligence in strategies.
Suggestions & Assumptions:This activity is the first cooperation of new group members. And it is understandable for the kind of loose reactions. Wish these new members find their places in the group and make their own marvels!
