Headline: Nationwide Zero Waste School Campaign 2024
Jan.10.2025
At the beginning of 2024, a national deployment has been made for the construction of “Waste-Free Cities”, proposing that by 2027, the intensity of solid waste generation will be significantly reduced. In response, Shanghai Roots & Shoots, together with L’Occitane, got into schools around the country and carried out Zero Waste School Campaign activities in November and December. The activities were held in primary and secondary schools in Nanjing, Hangzhou, Beijing, Ningbo and Shanghai, enabling a total of about 1,300 teachers and students to experience and learn about “zero waste”, adding to the construction of “Waste-Free Cities (Schools)”.
Five immersive and thematic mini-games have been designed by Shanghai Roots & Shoots, from the entire life cycle of waste, including How Long it Takes for Waste Degradation, Separate the Waste and Throw it and Eco Quiz, etc.. Through the games, students learned about environmental knowledge such as waste degradation and reduction, sorting and recycling, energy saving and emission reduction, and grew up in happiness.
After participating in the five games, students were rewarded with eco-friendly goodies specially customized by Shanghai Roots & Shoots, which were themselves made from recycled materials. Meanwhile, students can spread the idea of “zero waste” to their families and communities by introducing the goodies, so that more people can join the construction of “Waste-Free Cities”.
With gusto, volunteers also introduced to the students the different forms of plastic waste in process of recycling and the newborn products. Infinite possibilities born from plastic waste recycling inspired students’ creativity of eco-friendly products and their great enthusiasm for recycling.
Thank you to L’Occitane for their generous support of this series! Thank you to the teachers and students for their active participation and the volunteers for their assistance and support!
