YES丨An Impressive Learning Experience of Meicun Students
Nov.4.2016
Even though I have participated in the Roots & Shoots’ Yes Mentor Training for twice, I still believed that the training was very helpful for me to learn something new.
First of all, students were separated into groups. Students needed to present a sample class together with good leadership and strong teamwork. Besides, as the co-coordinator of this training, our Roots & Shoots group faced the challenge on organising everything and reception.
Secondly, we benefited greatly from the main content of the training.
Two experienced Roots & Shoots staff taught us how to develop an interactive and fun Eco classes. The facilitators also shared their experience about how to communicate effectively, and manage the class properly. The way we learned and improved our communication skills was through a paper-tearing game. When we receive orders or information, what we behave and how we react will both be related to our understanding. This game helped us have a better understanding on how to deal with information from others. Afterwards, something new impressed us a lot. The “Nature Detective” helped us have more patience on observation.
The knowledge beyond the textbook has given us great help in speech and social skills. Since there are various activities in high school, so students need to learn the skill of self-marketing and the ability to lead a team. Therefore, the Yes Mentor Training and YES program are perfect opportunities for high school students to practice in real life.
Everyone has gained some improvements from the one-day training. With a deep reflection of ourselves, we could definitely discover our strengths.
I would like to express my appreciation to Roots & Shoots for performing this excellent event, which helped me to improve my ability.
