Celebrate Harvest With Volunteers From The Walt Disney Company

Jun.25.2014

On June 25, 2014, the Land Resources Day, three volunteers from the Walt Disney Company came to the Shanghai Luochuan School to pick up ripe vegetables in the organic garden of the school, together with 16 primary school students who were taking organic gardening lessons this semester, and learned the importance of land resources to human beings by means of a simple game.

In the small organic garden of the Shanghai Luochuan School, there grew green peppers, peas and mints which were the outcome of a semester’s hard work by the students and volunteers. Growing these plants not only brought life to the space, it also made the students appreciate the happiness of harvesting.

Despite the drizzle that day, the volunteers and students were extremely excited. They worked together and before long three basket-ful of vegetables and herbs were gathered. After the harvest, they washed some newly picked mint leaves with which they made a refreshing beverage. This was the reward for hard work.

Finally, under the guidance of some R&S staff, volunteers of the Walt Disney Company and students played a game——standing together on the newspaper with increasing number of people. The game taught that the increasing number of the population led to the decreasing number of land per capita. How to make use of the precious land resources on the earth fairly and effectively is a problem man is confronted with.  Organic farming is better than conventional farming in that it preserves the health of land, as the students learned through the organic garden program.

We sincerely thank the Walt Disney Company for their strong support for the organic garden program!
