Care for the Mentally Handicapped Children Activity Reflection
On the afternoon of April 15th, Shanghai Roots & Shoots joined the “Care for Mentally Handicapped Children” program.
We first went to the Sunshine School in Huangpu District, where we acquainted ourselves with the students. They were all very smart and cute, which is very different from the commonly-held image of the mentally handicapped. We brought plants to the students and planted “seeds of love” with them.
Afterwards, we went to Shanghai Botanical Garden with more than twenty of the students. Once there, we rode in sightseeing cars, looked at the lowers, and took many pictures. The whole time, the students had smiles on their faces; everything was wonderful. As we were leaving to head back to the school, there was even a child who started crying. There were tears in my eyes as well.
This activity was happy as well as memorable. We hope that more people can join us to care for these children. Together, we will bring our care and help to children in hopes that they can leave their own world and open up their hearts to society.
