YES Mentor Xingyu Yao’s Report

Mar.14.2011

Xingyu Wish On March 14th, 2011 at 2:50 pm, I gave the students of Hanghua #1 Elementary School’s Roots and Shoots group their first lesson. I had actually finished preparing for the lesson a week in advance, but due to the March 11th earthquake in Japan, I ended up revising my plan on the morning on 14th. On the night of the earthquake, I laid in bed, unable to fall asleep, pondering deeply about what I could do in the face of the disaster.

So, on 14th, after a brief introduction, I led all 30 of the 5th grade students to pray for the Japanese facing the disaster. With the background music of the song “Memory”, the students all prayed silently and sincerely. I was touched.

Afterwards, we brainstormed how we could have an impact on the world.

Before the lesson ended, every kid all got a Roots & Shoots badge. We made a promise to wear them for every Roots & Shoots activity, for “we are all Roots and Shoots” 🙂
