EVENT DETAILS:
As the new semester approached, we intended to utilize our garden in a very simple way. All the teachers and students were asked to participate and to spread the idea. On April 3, our Jianping Century middle school’s Roots and Shoots, with the help of volunteers, carried out the organic farm project. Students were taught the connotation of the organic concept and the practice of organic farming. At the same time, comprehensive and professional knowledge about these farms were also incorporated. We did not use any type of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, synthetic hormones, or genetically modified material for planting activities, and spread the concept of environmental awareness to our peers. There was no budget, so our seeds were presented from headquarters and plant seeds were collected from the members. Under the guidance of instructors we began sowing and fertilizing, which attracted many students to participate in our activities. To help the soil cultivation process, we composted. The compost was constructed from raw materials, such as, coffee grounds, banana peels and vegetable scraps. The fixed team members totaled 11 people, each taking care of the garden for 7 days. By June, our crops were showing signs of growing and cultivating fruit. We hope future activities will be even more successful.
