EVENT DETAILS:

After mid-term examination, the SHS Annual Club Festival immediately began. The display showcase of our Greenday Club was to be held April 30th. As the manager of our club, I wanted to bring a unique concept into our display.

During a previous meeting of Roots and Shoots, our peers from SFLS introduced their project “The White Cup Contest”, which was very innovative and attractive that we would assimilate it into our campus. However, due to the time constraints, we would be unable to use this activity for the festival. As a result, we forged a by product called “ the Art of Starbucks ”.

We aimed to advertise the concept of recycling by turning waste into artistic expressions. Although this idea is considered common, students have never had the opportunity to participate in these types of events. While styling these plain cups, many of my peers were curious and wanted to explain what I was doing, unaware that you can use various “waste” items as your palette. After witnessing this, we decided to use this concept as our display to captivate people with innovation while simultaneously promoting the concept of our club and building a strong foundation.

Two weeks before the display showcase, we organized several teams to collect and clean used cups at different Starbucks shop. Initially, some shops didn’t allow us to collect cups. Luckily, after reviewing our reason behind this, they became more relaxed and granted us permission. This experience enabled club members to learn a lot in interpersonal relationship, social practice, and maintaining perseverance.

After the collection we advertised online, which was viewed over 1000 times and liked more than 300 times. At school, we also tried to expand our event, students constantly flocked to my room for more cups. By the end, we received more than 30 delicately-drawn cups. Pigments, watercolors,  sketches, and simple hand-drawn art were some of the styles presented, which astounded our own staff. On the display day, we collected all the cups on three tables. Whoever passed our tables stopped and gazed at those cups with compliments and sighs, asking us if they could get free cups right here and take them back to draw. Their excited faces made all of us feel proud and accomplished.  That day’s huge success was the biggest reward for all of the member’s hard work.

The defect of this project was the short preparation time. For next semester, our club is going to film their own promotion video. We will also  expand our contest to the whole school campus, including the international division. We hope that this will help extend our influence so that we can help protect our social and environmental habitat.
