Event Details:
Since the beginning of this semester,the Roots & Shoots from Shanghai Foreign Language School decided to continue the tradition,hosigng the White Cup Contest Phase 2.Based on the effort we made last year,we expanded our activity from decorating cups to a series of processes including collecting,beautifying cups as well as charity sale. This event allows students to be more directly involved in environmental protection and dedicate to our mother—the Earth.
During the preparation,we appreciated that we contacted HuDong Foreign Language Primary School and invited students to participate in our first stage activity—collecting cups.Led by our group members,the young kids gained happiness and satisfaction，which was brought by the work that was associated with the protection of the environment. At the same time, they saw a large quantity of waste being produced, however, this phenomenon was ignored by most of the people.We believe in the future,students will adopt the idea of the environmental protection in their daily behavior:to start from themselves,and to protect the environment and the Earth.
In the gathering part,children collected a total number of 55 Starbucks cups with the help of our group members.After the cleaning and drying process,the collected cups became the material for the second phase—cup decoration.
According to the improvement we made last year and in order to make full use of these beautiful art works,we purchased many meaty plants and nutritious soil for our members who later decorated the plants.These plants were popular among students and the most beautiful cup called ‘starry sky’ grabbed more than 10 students’ attention.
After the contest,we cooperated with the Bifrost organization and we brought our products to the fair held by Bifrost. In the fair,members actively introduced the progress of the WCC program and the concept of environmental protection.Meanwhile,our exhibition attracted many visitors who purchased our eco-friendly plants.In the end,we donated all the charity money we got,approximate 400 yuan, to Shanghai Roots&Shoots for the million tree project.
