A Visit to Applied Materials

On August 2, 2011, Shanghai R&S Zheng Chen was invited by Applied Materials Corp. to participate in the College Students Green Camp.

The activities of the camp included a brief introduction to the Camp, Applied Materials Corp., solar energy, and Applied Materials corporate social responsibility.

First, Green Camp representative, Xing Li, introduced the theme of this year’s Green Camp: waste-sorting investigations in Jing’an and Minhang districts.

Then, the general manager of the BU unit of Applied Materials in China, Mr. Zhang Tianhao, introduced the company’s culture and ideas; two other important people with equally long titles then introduced their science-related knowledge. This had a great effect on the students, and caused them looked forward to their future careers.

Lastly, R&S program director, Zheng Chen, introduced the cooperation between R&S and the Applied Materials’ CSR department. Due to their shared passion for environmentalism, the two groups have had consistent cooperation since 2007. Finally, the staff at Applied Materials gave the Shanghai students lectures on environmentalism; they were succeeded in impressing the students with their environmental educational spirit.
