Citi’s “Tower Climb” Reaches A New High!

Last Saturday, Citi hosted its annual Community Walk on Saturday, October 23rd. In spite of the bad weather and rain, there were more than 100 attendees who came out for this year’s “Tower Climb”, a vertical challenge in which participants climbed the 39 floors up Citi Tower. At the end of the day, the event raised 4476.6 RMB (and HKD 80!), which brings Citi’s accumulated total to 17,077.29 RMB for the Million Tree Project- all of which has been raised over the years through community events by Citi’s employees.
This year’s Community Walk also grabbed the attention from media. Below are the collection of recent news stories which has generated good publicity for both Citi’s volunteering tradition and the Million Tree Project.
Citi Conducts Annual “Global Community Day” in China
On October 23, Citi China’s Global Community Day activity kicked off in Shanghai. Almost 2,000 Citi volunteers participated in the activity throughout the country, ranging from environmental protection, educational activities for next generation, and caring for the senior and under-attended groups. They joined approximately 45,000 Citi volunteers across the world for the company’s fifth annual “Global Community Day”. In Shanghai, volunteers organized a Citi Tower building climb, during which Citi employees, families and friends climbed the stairs of Citi Tower while raising funds for The Million Tree Project. Mr. Anand Selva, Executive Vice President of Citibank (China) Co., Ltd., participated in the inaugural ceremony. Many Citi employees volunteer year-round, but Global Community Day provides an annual opportunity to have company employees, along with their families and friends, come together to do something for the communities, and to give a hand to those in need.
Citi China mobilized its growing workforce today to give back to local community in cities around China. Almost 2,000 Citi volunteers participated in 30 different projects throughout the country, ranging from environmental protection, educational activities for next generation, and caring for the senior and under-attended groups. They joined approximately 45,000 Citi volunteers across the world for the company’s fifth annual “Global Community Day”.
In Shanghai, volunteers organized a Citi Tower building climb, during which Citi employees, families and friends climbed the stairs of Citi Tower while raising funds for The Million Tree Project, an initiative to help offset carbon emissions and combat climate change by planting a million trees in Inner Mongolia by 2014 to fight against global warming and desertification. Citi commenced its support for The Million Tree Project in 2009 and has created “Citi Forest” in Inner Mongolia.

Other Global Community Day activities conducted in China included activities with migrant children in Beijing; visits to and support for schools and universities in Hangzhou, Dalian and Chongqing; and caring for the poor and under-attended groups in Xiamen and Chibi.
