EVENT DETAILS:

Jan 2014, we started the project of “green campus” with the evaluation plan. Afterwards, in March, we started a campaign with the theme of 3.12 tree planting day, aiming to appeal to everyone to help create a more environmentally friendly campus.

Part A: Green campus evaluation project
The members of our Greenday Club went around the campus to do an all-round inquiry. The aspects which we inquired about are the lighting conditions, the air condition system, on-campus facilities (since we are a boarding school, it is basically made up of two parts: the classroom building and the dormitory), washing rooms, drinking water, afforest, the canteen as well as the students’ habits of paper usage and travelling. We went on to learn about little details that are frequently neglected by us, for instance, the time when the watering of the flowers and plants happens. Eventually, we held a meeting about the results of our evaluation and a discussion about what could be done to improve the current situation and make our campus more environmentally friendly.
We came up with a few tips, for example: the curtains should be drawn down when the air conditioners are turned up, in order not to waste electricity. Turn off unnecessary electrical appliances, such as the lights, when not in usage. Schedule the watering of the flowers to night instead of noon to save water resources…. A little deed may make a huge difference.

Part B: Tree-planting Day campaign
During one of the regular meetings of our Greenday club, we went over a brief introduction of the tree-planting day: its history, its traditions, its different customs and so on. In the meanwhile, for students are especially enthusiastic about trees, we recommended a few tree adoption projects that are going on at several forest parks in Shanghai.
