H005-Shanghai Nanyang Model School

Shanghai Nanyang exemplary middle schoolwas founded in 1901. It is one of the earliest new schools founded by Chinese people. Its predecessor is Nanyang public school (now Xi’an Jiao Tong University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University) affiliated primary school, which is the beginning of China’s “public primary school”. It was attached to the University before 1927. In 1927, it was transformed into a private Nanyang Model Primary and secondary school. In April 1950, President Mao Zedong was named “Qingfeng” for the student newspaper at the request of senior one student. In 1956, it was changed to public. In October 2004, the school was selected as the first batch of “experimental demonstrative high schools in Shanghai”.
