Recently, the CPC Publicity Dept., the Office for Promoting Cultural and Ethical Progress, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the CCYL, and the All-China Women’s Federation together issued a document to support and develop volunteer organizations in China. On August 2nd, the Shanghai Volunteer Organization Development Conference was organized at the Haishang Cultural Center.
During the conference, Ms Zhang Jing, Director of Social Work Division of Shanghai Civil Affair Bureau, elaborated on the volunteer organization development document. Afterwards, representatives from CCYL Shanghai Committee, Xuihui & Jing’an Offices for Prommoting Cultural and Ethical Progress, Shanghai Roots & Shoots and some other local non-profit organizations all shared their experiences on managing volunteer events and community services. Professor Tao Jing from Shanghai University shared a report on the relationship between volunteerism and a well-managed society.
Shanghai Roots & Shoots started small with only one person and now has more than 350 Roots & Shoots groups all around China who are actively involved in environmental protection events or projects. 50000+ volunteers have also contributed a great deal to our environmental projects. All our student groups and volunteers believe that each of us is part of the society and we have to give back to the community.
Volunteerism is crucial to all Roots & Shoots projects. We are happy to see more and more young people joining us and becoming great volunteers.
