Organic Garden Training – 2013 Spring
Mar.17.2013
On March 17th, 2013, it was sunny. Shanghai Roots & Shoots — Organic Garden team led 19 volunteers to BIOFarm in Chuansha, to observe and study organic farming.
The volunteers gradually understood the difference between organic farming and traditional farming during the tour around the ranch. Sex hormone, light, and other special methods of debugging are specifically attractive. These harm-free approaches prevent the bugs from releasing any toxic harm-secretion.
What’s more, the volunteers also learnt about basic ways to debug, by planting mint and lemon grass, whose odor drives bugs away, near other plants.
“Life of milk” was thought-provoking on the level of ethics about the topic of animal protection, while “Earthworm Fertiliser” enabled the volunteers to understand how to organically enhance the quality of the earth.
The one-day long training is very beneficial to the volunteers. They will surely pass this knowledge to the young, and better engage in Organic Garden activities.
