Plant for the Planet| Walt Disney Adopted the School Organic Garden of South Dong Chang Middle School attached to East China Normal University

On April 22nd, Shanghai Roots & Shoots and Walt Disney came to the school garden of South Dong Chang Middle School, to carry out planting activities with the students.

Shanghai Roots & Shoots then gave a brief planting training to the Disney voluntEARs, and divided them into three groups, involved planting bee-friendly herbs, peppers and eggplants in three separate plots at the school garden. Planting methods were carefully shared, including how to transplant flower seedlings; how to plant vegetable seedlings and watering properly.

Before the students’ arrival, Disney voluntEARs first prepared the soil. Digging is an essential and interesting “hard”task. They tried their best to dig out rocks in all sizes, making the compact ground loosen.

After the tasks were assigned, the students arrived successively and divided into three groups as well. Led by the volunteers, students had a clear division of work: some were responsible for digging, some for mulching, and some for watering …… With their effective team work, the three plots of land were revitalized.

Having completed the planting work, labels of plants were distributed, and in a happy atmosphere, everyone wrote down the names of the plants in memory of the experience. Finally, the volunteers and students took a group photo to imprint the joy of planting in this moment.
