KidStrong | Protecting Children’s Smiles by Dental Care Education

Activity 1: Dental Health Checkups
On May 21st and 27th, KidStrong invited a group of dentists from Shanghai Renai Hospital to visit four migrant schools and conduct comprehensive dental checkups for more than 1,100 students.
The dentists patiently checked the dental health of each student and gave them advice on dental care. After the checkup, KidStrong staff provided each student with detailed oral examination results, which will help parents to better understand their children’s dental health status.
Activity 2: KidStrong Dental Care Class
On the morning of May 21st and the afternoon of May 28th, Shanghai Roots and Shoots KidStrong Program, together with 16 UPS volunteers, went to Shanghai Pujiang Wenxin School and Pujiang Wenhui School, and brought a lively and engaging dental care class to 378 third-grade students.
Through interactive demonstrations and lively explanations, the volunteers taught students proper tooth brushing methods and dental care knowledge, helping students to learn how to protect their teeth at an early age. The teaching of dental care was interesting and fun, and the students were fully engaged and mastered the essentials of dental care.
After class, each student received a dental care kit, including toothpaste and toothbrush for kids, and dental floss. They’re encouraged to apply what they learnt to daily lives.
Activity 3: Children’s Dental Health Education Campaign
On June 5th, an innovative children’s dental health education activity was organized in Shanghai Minhang Maqiao Primary School. This activity is an innovative adoption of the “children influencing children” model, with 24 students as Tooth Protection Ambassadors giving dental health lecturers to fellow students. The Ambassadors taught tooth health knowledge to more than 700 third-grade and fourth-grade students. With peer students playing the role of teachers, tooth protection education gained magical power.
In the classroom filled with laughter and cheer, the Tooth Protection Ambassadors passed on the knowledge by interesting games, making sure that their classmates grasped the correct tooth brushing techniques and dental care must-dos. The communication among the students certainly made dental health education much more engaging.
In the next semester, KidStrong will continue to carry out children’s dental health educational activities in Tangwan School, so that more children can benefit from dental care education and improve their dental health. This educational campaign will be like the seeds of health sown in the children’s hearts, accompanying them to grow up.
Let’s work together to protect children’s dental health and let today’s habits become a routine in the future. We look forward to every student becoming a little expert on dental health, having healthy teeth and keeping a bright smile!
