Reading Jane Goodall – The One Who Sow The Seeds of Hope” Book Club Finale

Apr.1.2025

On January 25, 2025, the Shanghai Children’s Library’s “Reading Nature” program, in collaboration with Shanghai Roots & Shoots, hosted the book club event ” Reading Jane Goodall – The One Who Sow The Seeds of Hope.” The event attracted many young readers passionate about nature and environmental conservation, immersed in the world of hope and power brought by this legendary primatologist.

At the event, Xiao Xia, Communications Manager of Shanghai Roots & Shoots and YES Mentor Bu Gua engaged participants with fun interactive Q&A sessions about Dr. Jane Goodall’s fascinating life. They also shared Dr Jane Goodall’s studies on chimpanzees and her dedication to conservation work, and why she remains hopeful facing so many environmental crisis.

The young readers enthusiastically shared their reflections on Dr. Goodall’s books and how her work has positively influenced them.

This book club not only provided a platform for exchanging reading insights and eco-conscious ideas but also helped more people learn about Dr. Goodall’s outstanding contributions to environmental protection and her philosophy of hope. We believe that in the future, more individuals will come together to protect our planet and all its living beings, working together to create a brighter tomorrow.

After the event, many young readers lingered, immersed in books about Dr. Goodall, eager to explore more of her inspiring stories. We will continue our partnership with the Shanghai Children’s Library’s “Reading Nature” program to bring new events to these young readers in the future.

This Jane Goodall-themed exhibition also featured a special section on “Protecting the Cao Vit Gibbon.” Gibbons, like the chimpanzees studied by Dr. Goodall, belong to the ape families and share close genetic similarities with humans. Currently, there are five species of gibbons in the wild in China. The Cao Vit Gibbon is a critically endangered species, only 36 individuals left in China. We hope more people will learn about Cao Vit Gibbon, their characteristics and their habits, to join efforts to protect them.

Only if we can understand,Can we care

Only if we care,Will we help

Only if we help, Shall all be saved

——Jane Goodall
