Here are some of the highlights of Shanghai Roots & Shoots in 2016:
- The Million Tree Project planted over 2 million trees to fight against desertification by the end of 2016 and has received continued technical support from the Department of Forest Science’s Nursery Technology Cooperative at Oregon State University;
- The Organic Garden Program provides over 50 different vegetable and herb species that are planted organically in schools to educate students on organic farming and food safety;
- The YES Program mentors, recruited from all walks of life, lecture students in over 60 schools, encouraging them to explore nature and protect Mother Earth;
- The Eco Office Program establishes volunteer clubs in companies to cultivate Green Ambassadors who will help create a greener office space and deliver community services;
- The KidStrong Program supports over 5,000 migrant students in health education and medical care by offering prescription eyeglasses and dental treatments in addition to regular personal hygiene classes;
The Home of Hope Program serves Colorectal Cancer patients, helping them build confidence in recovery through interactive activities, disease education seminars and psychological counseling sessions.
