Shanghai Roots & Shoots Participates in China Charity Fair
Sep.25.2014
Between September 19th and 21st 2014, Shanghai Roots & Shoots was again invited to the China Charity Fair (CCF). It was the third time for R&S to participate in the national fair in Shenzhen. The R&S group in Shenzhen also supported our booth at the fair.
- A Greener Lifestyle
The CCF was quite a great opportunity for R&S to interact with the public. We put on display our bamboo chopsticks, bamboo business-card holders and cool sun-glasses made from recycled CDs. We even decorated our booth with reusable bags and DIY crafts made from old jeans.
- Art From Nature
We brought the YES curriculum to the CCF. Quite a lot of children who visited the CCF were attracted by the leaf collages at our booth. Our volunteers patiently taught the children step by step how to create their own artwork using fallen leaves. The parents also showed interest in the activity.
- 2014, A Big Year
2014 is a big year for Shanghai R&S: Our founder Dr Jane Goodall’s turned 80 this year; 2014 marks the 15th anniversary of Shanghai R&S and the 10th anniversary of the YES Program.
On the huge tree trunk we set up at our booth, we collected from the visitors hundreds of birthday wishes for Jane and for a better environment.
About CCF
The third national charity fair – China Charity Fair, held in September in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, provided a platform for non-profit organizations to share, communicate and learn from each other.
The fair was intended to promote stronger ties between the government, businesses and the public, and to foster multi-stakeholder partnerships, information exchange and academic collaborations.
The fair’s environmental protection section was designed in a low-carbon fashion using recycled fabrics as decoration materials, re-used wood for flooring and display boards, and metal buckets as desks and chairs.
At the fair, non-profit organizations, renowned experts and government organizations exchanged ideas and together raised public awareness on philanthropy.
