The Fifth Shanghai Philanthropic Partnership Day
Nov.6.2015
The 5th Philanthropy Partnership Day (PPD) was successfully held between October 30 and Nov 1 at Shanghai Gongyi Xintiandi, home to dozens of grassroots non-profit organizations. Over 260 local non-profit organizations and social enterprises as well as 21 non-profits from the Yangtze River Delta participated in the event, seeking potential partners while showcasing their projects.
Non-Profits in Shanghai
According to the data from Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau, 13138 non-profit organizations, 2.12 million + volunteers, and 155000 + volunteering groups are now providing valuable services in 204 residential communities. By the end of this year, 180 goodwill supermarkets and over 3200 community donation drop-off spots will have been established.
Roots & Shoots Highlights
This year, R&S displayed an aquaponics system which was introduced by our YES mentor to primary schools. This system can provide plants with enough fertilisers from the eco-system in the fish tank. The filtered water, with oxygen dissolved, can then be transferred back to the fish tank.
To promote the China R&S Festival map-colouring campaign, we printed out some postcards in black and white for those interested in doing some coloring on their own. It was quite a popular activity and more people got to know about the R&S Festival 2015.
Another highlight of the PPD was that the R&S group from Xiwai Foreign Language School co-hosted a booth with ART Spring. They combined traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy to demonstrate the evolution of plants on an eight-meter long scroll. Leaves of different kinds of trees were placed in an archeological order.
