EVENT DETAILS:

On May 10th, members of the Greenroad Association at Tongji University established Green Riding Activities with a focus on conserving water. The activity aimed at lowering carbon travel and saving water through bike-riding and verbal Competitions. Green Advance Group is responsible for the Green Riding. During preparation, we took about half a month to contact the head of Shanghai Auto Expo Park to explain our activities. We also customized uniforms and banners that were needed during the event, prepared question cards and bought brushes, paintings and prizes. All of these supplies were very cheap, costing around RMB196.6.

At the park, members discussed with groups of tourists about environmental protection and water-saving. When the opportunity arose for questions, many people became very enthusiastic and had their own thoughts on water conservation. We were even able to meet with a doctor that gave us more insight on this topic. When the event concluded, tourists were able to sign their name and resolutions on the banner and were handed washing fluids as gifts.

Although the activity ended successfully, some problems still lingered:

  • The period of green riding was too short and the participants on the road weren’t adequate.
  • The questions prepared were confusing, making answers incorrect.
  • After grouping participants, it was inconvenient for members to move with banners in their hands.

As a result, some improvements need to be made for the next Green Riding activity:

  • The route of the Green Riding event may not be the simplest so we can choose another park if necessary.
  • When making questions, we need to be more careful in wording and to thoroughly check answers.
  • Some small banners can be made and distributed to every group.

All the members thought the Green Riding event was an ideal method of spreading information and hope that it will be adopted by other  Roots & Shoots programs.
