EVENT DETAILS:

“Seeds turn to plants, dreams germinate.”

In order to pass a sustainable environmental idea among students, and to guide students to cultivate environmental awareness and actively participate in environmental practices, the CYL Central School Division and Sina Weibo will continue to jointly carry out the Fifth National Students’ “plants adoption ”environmental protection activities from March to May in 2015. The theme of this event is “when seeds turn to plants, dreams germinate.” We, the Roots and Shoots club, host this event. The activities are scheduled for April 20 – April 23, through Earth Day, thereby expanding the “plants adoption” activities. We have three pre-publicity posters of the main event, the cafeteria, dormitory building A and B and dormitory building C and D .The activity is located at the front of the dormitory in building CD.

The activities are divided into two sections.

(A) Online activities:

1. “Shake, register and get seeds”: Sina’s official event page. Participate in an online reservation and participate in the shake the seeds activity. A page on the website will announce the results of the event and if you win you will receive a portion of the seeds at the event.

2. “Publish environmental declaration online”: For April 22 ,Earth Day, you can publish your environmental declaration to awaken environmental awareness online.

(B) Offline activities

1. “Adoption seed activity”: We will distribute free seed plants, a total of 400 seeds, that include seed preparation, nutrition soil and pots. (The actual number of seeds is 1200,  three tablets is one portion.)

Because the students and members were productive, the event was a perfect success.

After the event, students took photos and sent them to us after cultivating their seeds, while some had trouble and contacted us for more information. The event, while successful, had some drawbacks. For example, we did not do any work after the events, we simply completed the distribution of seeds. As a result, we didn’t give attention to the growth of the seeds nor did we emphasize on taking pictures for seed growth. After discussing these concerns, we thought to set up a discussion or hold activities such as “Let Your Plants Dry in the Sun”, so that students could get involved, interact with each other and learn from each other while planting.
