Dragon Recycling|The Green Seeds Are Now Growing
Dec.1.2021
In 2021, Shanghai Roots & Shoots sowed some Green Seeds through a hands-on environmental course in three schools: Huangpu No.1 Central Primary School, Shangwen Middle School and Cao Guangbiao Primary School. This «Green Seeds» Project on campus was sponsored by Shanghai Charity Foundation, aiming at raising students’ awareness of proper recycling and resource saving.
The Green Seeds Project consisted of three themed courses, school recycling campaigns, a volunteer training session, a teachers’ workshop and an eco-trip and all these activities were based on recycling and a sustainable lifestyle.
The school courses helped students learn the code 1 – 7 marked on every plastic product and how to help the Earth by realizing 7Rs – to reduce, recycle, reuse, repair, refuse, rot, and rethink.
In the three partner schools, students recycled paper, plastic, metal, e-waste, and clothing, with the support of Roots & Shoots volunteers. These were all from classrooms and households.

On the eco-trip, the participants decorated four garbage bins for the farm and learned composting after a delicious farm lunch. They also made dragon boats with carton to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival.
All the volunteers in the Green Seeds Project, named Green Mentors devoted themselves to this educational project and to a more sustainable lifestyle.
