Review of Student Activities in Spring 2024
Jul.11.2024
The student activities in the first half of 2024 ended successfully. Throughout this semester, the Roots & Shoots groups in Shanghai and surrounding cities actively participated in the monthly theme activities organized by Shanghai Roots & Shoots, and carried out distinctive green initiatives.
At the beginning of each month from March to May, Shanghai Roots & Shoots held a monthly meeting at the office and released the challenge theme of the month – in March, the “Tree of Bees 2.0” challenge, to complete the tree-shaped walk, find the “Tree of Bees”, and take a photo with the favorite tree; in April, the “Love the Earth, Zero Takeout” challenge, to practice dine-in, and turn takeout packaging into treasure; in June, the “My Mysterious Species” challenge, to learn about endangered species, and make a mask or art work related to endangered species. In conjunction with the monthly theme challenges, Shanghai Roots & Shoots prepared corresponding green knowledge, and the three challenges received positive responses from students.
This year’s monthly meeting provided more opportunities for communication for the students or representatives of the Roots & Shoots groups. Everyone introduced their monthly achievements at the meeting, and representatives of Roots & Shoots Groups from other provinces and cities also actively participated online. Teaching groups or environmental protection clubs from many universities such as University of Nottingham Ningbo China, Nanjing University of Finance and Economics, Wuhan University, and Shandong University have carried out sustainable development education courses, sharing their successful experiences in organizing members, connecting service schools, and community development; the group leader from Shanghai Foreign Language School showed everyone the biodiversity-themed fan design at the club carnival, and they also launched a case of using coffee takeaway cups for flower arrangement on campus; the group leader from Shanghai World Foreign Language Academy introduced to everyone the successful case of rainwater garden from theoretical and literature research to actual design and construction; the group leader from Shanghai Customs College organized a campus recycling campaign in exchange with colourful wishing bottles.
The Roots & Shoots Groups are in action every year. No matter when and where, they are expressing their love for the earth with practical actions, always conveying the concept of Roots & Shoots – caring for the environment, caring for animals, and caring for the community.
