EVENT DETAILS:
For a Junior High Biology competition, contestants were expected to have extra knowledge on environmental science. The exam has free-response questions, which not only tested knowledge on theories, but also requests to express personal views on environmental protection through hand written models.
The staff of our school’s “International Week” praised this competition. The Roots & Shoots club , who were the coordinators, were happy to see passion reflected during the contest. We look forward to hosting more similar events to raise awareness about environmental protection to the community.
Since the beginning of the semester, students who participated in Roots & Shoots from Shanghai Foreign Language School decided not to limit their ideas and thoughts about environmental protection inside the campus, but to spread them in the local area. Students contacted their primary schools for an opportunity to spread their opinions. We first went to Jiangning Middle School for our first lecture on the environment. On Dec.24th, 4 students from SFLS Roots &Shoots gave a few lectures on different topics to two classes. The topics included Green Food and Water Resource Protection. The speech caught the audience’s attention due to our games and candies for whoever had a correct answer. One of the speakers said that people gained knowledge about Green Food, a familiar but quite abstract term, through playing our games and answering questions, which made us proud. We all hoped that both the speakers and the audience will pass on the message and the thought of protecting the environment. If each of us make a small contribution, we could make great progress.
