Shanghai R&S Staff visit Philippines NGO
Over the Chinese New Year, Shanghai Roots & Shoots staff members Mindy Chen and Whitney Yang traveled to Manila, Philippines, where they visited the Smokey Mountain garbage dump – home to around 40,000 people and the WE International Philippines NGO. They witnessed homes built from scavenged trash, women and men sorting through piles of rubbish for recyclable materials, and barefoot children playing amongst piles of burning wood for charcoal production. WE International Philippines is a start-up NGO working with various local organizations such as “Love to Learn” and “Young Focus” to fund a medical centers and feeding programs for malnourished babies and toddlers, an informal teaching program to encourage children to return to school, an after school study center with computers and Internet access, and a high quality basketball court. WE urgently needs your help. Click here to visit their website and donate now: http://weinternational.org/philippines/
