KidStrong | Happy 2015 KidStrong Summer Camp!

Jul.2.2015

It’s KidStrong Summer Camp time again! Twenty-one migrant students and seven of their teachers from five of Shanghai’s migrant schools attended KidStrong Summer Camp from June 5 to June 7. Over two days and two nights, students visited the Shanghai Nature Museum, watched a 4D movie, prepared butterfly specimens, played football, and did pottery …

Besides these activities, KidStrong program staff also prepared different cuisines for the students and their teachers, including Chinese and Western food. For Chinese food, the campers sampled Shanghai-style and Western China-style cooking. Both the students and the teachers made fun memories during the summer camp, which gave them the opportunity to learn more about Shanghai as their second hometown.

All the children who attended the summer camp reported that they had a great time at the camp, and some told us that the greatest achievement of the camp was that they learned to help each other and work as a team. One of the teachers said: “Our children learned a lot from this summer camp. Students learned to cherish others’ merits and overcome their own difficulties through watching movies and discussing the merits and flaws of the characters. In the Nature Museum, the students experienced the phenomenon of evolution; they also learned teamwork from making butterfly specimens, playing football, and doing pottery. In the two and half days away from home, the children became more independent, more thankful, and gained a greater sense of care for others”.
