Roots & Shoots, Get Involved!

In 1991, Jane Goodall founded Roots & Shoots, a global youth program dedicated to environmental conservation and humanitarian care. Since then, Jane Goodall began global tours to raise environmental awareness. Roots & Shoots encourages young people to take informed actions for the benefit of the environment, animals and the human community. Having been active in China of for more than 20 years,  Roots & Shoots has offices in Beijing, Shanghai  and Chengdu supporting 700+ Roots & Shoots groups across the country.

Roots & Shoots offices have built strong partnerships with corporations, working together towards a greener planet. Each Roots & Shoots office is known for its flagship programs which are well received. For instance, Beijing office’s No Shark Fin Program, Shanghai office’s Million Tree Project and Chengdu office’s Recycling Program are long-standing efforts that have had substantial impact on the environment and the community.

Roots & Shoots Festival 2015

The three offices joined hands in celebrating the Roots & Shoots Festival launched on World Peace Day, September 21^st. Over the period of two months, Roots & Shoots groups will paint their green dreams and pass them on to fellow students in a different city.

Every province will be represented in one giant map of China. The Roots & Shoots groups are responsible for including elements of plants and animals unique to their home provinces in the artwork of the map to reflect the biodiversity of China. The map blueprint started its journey from Shanghai and will draw the relay a close in Beijing.
