Jul.9.2015
Citi celebrated its 10th annual Global Community Day last Saturday, June 13. More than 4,500 Citi China volunteers, family and friends participated in 23 activities across 17 cities in China to enable progress in the community we work and live.
In Shanghai Yunfeng Theater, 1,100 Citi volunteers organized a unique carnival, talent performance from Citi employees and their families and friends, limited edition souvenirs, presentation of five NGO projects and generous donations filled the theater with love and joy, which will further service and benefit more people and communities in needs through these non-profit organizations. Thanks to the votes from all Citi employees, Shanghai Roots & Shoots received donation from the event. This is not only a recognition from Citi regarding the performance of Million Tree Project in the past few years, but also a higher expectation for Shanghai Roots & Shoots. We are very grateful and honored to continue the partnership with Citi, bringing more positive outcomes in environment.
Citi Global Community Day harnesses our volunteers’ enthusiasm and passion through a wide range of service opportunities ranging from environmental protection, care for underprivileged children and elders, urban revitalization, support for non-profit organizations, to literacy and education. In the past ten years, close to 30,000 Citi China volunteers participated in 293 activities and contributed more than 100,000 hours of service.
Andrew Au, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citi China said, “Giving back is Citi’s tradition. It is in our DNA and it is the key driver to achieving our common purpose. We hope our actions will help encourage more corporates and individuals to leverage their core competencies for a better and healthier community.”
In its 10th annual Global Community Day, more than 75,000 Citi volunteers in 487 cities spanning 93 countries and territories engaged in more than 1,200 service activities for the benefit of their local communities. In the last ten years, volunteers have participated in more than 11,000 Global Community Day activities and contributed more than two million hours of service in total.
“As a company, we have shown that our commitment to the communities we serve includes giving our time and energy,” said Citi CEO Michael Corbat. “Global Community Day is now a decade-long tradition of Citi employees, friends and family working alongside community and non-profit partners to help improve our cities and neighborhoods.”
