Households Leading Low-Carbon Life, Waste Sorting as Priority
Households Leading Low-Carbon Life, Waste Sorting as Priority is a pragmatic project organized by the Shanghai Municipal Government. In order to guide households in successful waste sorting, Pudong New District Households Leading Low-Carbon Life, Waste Sorting as Priority project team founded the volunteering lecture group named Waste Sorting, Garbage Decreasing. They have used this group to promote environmentalism by guiding others through waste sorting. To our great honor, Shanghai R&S staffs Zheng Chen and Yang Qing were recruited into this lecture group.
On the morning of August 15th, Zheng Chen and Yang Qing were also invited to volunteer at the third Pudong New District’s Green Saturday, Community Resources Recycle Day.
Taking place on the second Saturday of every month, the event encourages households to realize the importance of a low-carbon life style, and advocates for lower household consumption to create a lower cost of living. The households can simply start by sorting dry and wet garbage. The event promoted the idea that changes from each individual will eventually lead to a better living environment for everyone.
Zheng Chen and Yang Qing, as lecture group members, taught the residents basic guidelines in waste sorting. Meanwhile, there were also stations where residents could trade in their garbage and electronic wastes for small gifts. They did not only receive perks, but also learned how to promote a healthier lifestyle. The attendees all expressed their satisfaction with the event and as well as their desire to attend next months Community Resource Recycle Day.
