Kids’ Dreams Sung Out Loud
2011 Huangpu Youth Federation (HYF) Chinese New Year Evening Gala
It is tradition for the Huangpu Youth (HYF) to welcome the Chinese New Year with charity. In the evening of January 30th, the Kids’ Dreams Sung Out Loud 2011 HYF Chinese New Year Evening Gala was held at the Shanghai Business and Tourism School. There, the president of HYF and several other members lit the Candle of Wishes. It was 90 years after Communist Party of China had been established, so members of HYF sang Communist Party songs to memorialize the special year. Afterwards, Qiang Zhong, Yixing Zhang, Jingmin Zhou, and Wenjin Tang, together with four students from Le Collège Guang Ming gave a presentation.
One of the main focuses of the gala was to care for students from rural families. The Wish Wall in the gala presented the New Year resolutions of 79 seventh graders from Le Collège Guang Ming. Each member of HYF fulfilled the resolution of one student, and encouraged them to be independent and to better adapt to Shanghai. All the students’ wishes were simple and touching: some asked for stationary, some wished to visit Shanghai, and some hoped to repay their parents. All the members were moved. The gala received a total of RMB 2059 in donations, which will all be given to the Red Scarf Book Room of Le Collège Guang Ming.
After lunch, the attendees played a game involving mutual trust. In this game, two teams had their eyes covered, and went on an expedition under the instructions of the head. Eventually, they returned safely. From playing this game, the attendees learned the importance of trust in team working, and improved their ability to communicate and give directions.
