Seventh Volunteer Gathering Successfully Held
Mar.23.2013
The seventh volunteer gathering was held by Shanghai Roots & Shoots on March 23th, 2013. The Roots & Shoots staff took ten volunteers to the May Farm in Suzhou on a one-day trip.
Although the weather was not the best, the enthusiasm of the volunteers was not repressed. After a 90-minute ride, the volunteers reached the destination. The first activity was a workshop about organic food. The guide of the farm and Shanghai Roots & Shoots staff introduced the differences between organic food and genetically modified (GM) food to the volunteers. The participants then had a deep discussion on GM food and everybody expressed their opinions on this issue.
After lunch, the volunteers visited the farm. They were asked to do a task within limited time, including looking for five kinds of vegetables and identifying three ways of biological control. Volunteers also harvested organic vegetables and tasted organic strawberries at the end of the activity.
The volunteers left the farm at 3 p.m. They made lots of new friends, learned plenty of knowledge and experienced the joy of harvesting.
