Summary Of The September Student’s Meeting, 2016

The September students’ meeting of Shanghai Roots & Shoots (R&S) came to an end.

On September 28th, 2016 at 6:00 PM, R&S held its students’ meeting at Gongyi Xintiandi which is located at No.105 West Puyu Road. About 61 students from 17 universities and 21 high schools attended this meeting.

[Program News]

Sasa He, the YES Program Coordinator, recruited volunteers on-site and encouraged more groups’ participation in volunteering as YES Mentors who would spend one weekday every week to bring fun and talents into the environmental courses for the primary and secondary school students.

Ben Xie, the newly-appointed Organic Garden Program Coordinator, promoted new ways of communication of the program. The groups in different schools can get to know the news of the program in time by marking on the maps and filling in the information on the website.

After that, Tianli Qiao, MTP Director, presented the MTP’s great performance on the opening ceremony of Rio Olympic Games and introduced the plan and outcome of the program.

Moreover, Catharine Gong, Kidstrong Program Director, presented the recruitment of volunteers for the “sports meeting for fun”.

Finally, Xian Liu, Home Of Hope Program Director, introduced the latest news of the program and presented the recruiting information for internship, for details:

[Latest News]

Xia Xiao, Local School Coordinator, introduced 3D creative designs of different kinds of “25” which were designed for the R&S’ 25-year celebration by the Youth Leadership Council. She also shared successful group cases with innovation, including free-hand sketching on coffee cups in Shanghai Foreign Language School, creative Christmas trees in Fu Xing Middle school, recycling school customs in shiwai middle school and so on.

At last, Yulin Sun, one of the Youth Leadership Council reviewed two under-go activities in the second half of this year including:

One, the clothes-recycling salon, which will be held in the middle of December. To join the activity, R&S groups can recycle used clothes on campus and participate in clothes-collage on site;

Two, the enterprise trip. R&S groups will be led by Youth Leadership Council to visit some of ours long-term partners, where students can get deep site on the culture and atmosphere of a great company.

[Important Notifications]

For R&S group leaders, please notice:

  1. At least two activities (or programs) need to be held every semester. Activity reports and semester summary should be submitted bilingually on-line to school coordinator. Also, the activity theme ought to be related to environmental protection, community service or animal welfare;
  2. The new Roots & Shoots Membership Guide (the Roots & Shoots Passport) will be released at the end of this year. Regulations and rights, event attendance, training records, report submission records, R&S awards will all be recorded in the guide. The guide will be distributed to all groups soon.
