Dragon Recycling|The Mentor Training – Spring 2021 Completed

Mar.16.2021

On March 6, 2021, Shanghai Roots & Shoots held its spring semester Green Mentor training at the Party-mass Service Station of Nanjing East Road Subdistrict. This group of young Green Mentors will serve in two educational projects this semester – the “Green Seed Action” (recycling education project launched in 2021) and the YES Program (environmental education curriculum project).

This year, with the funding from the Shanghai Charity Foundation, the “Green Seed Action” will serve three primary and secondary schools in Huangpu District, namely Huangpu District First Central Primary School, Shangwen Middle School, and Cao Guangbiao Primary School. Volunteers will teach three classes that combine concepts regarding recycling and sustainable living and also teach students how to carry out campus recycling activities. Shanghai Roots & Shoots will also hold an environmental protection carnival to discuss in-depth environmental issues in the future as well.

The YES Program carried out by Shanghai Roots & Shoots already serves many primary and secondary schools in Shanghai with environmental education courses. Volunteers will combine courses on topics such as oceans, plastics, ecology , etc. to teach students about our planet with.

The mentor training included several topics: introduction to Shanghai Roots & Shoots’ projects, volunteer spirit practices, volunteer management practices, plastics and recycling management, and teaching simulation, etc.  Volunteers gained a lot from the one-day training. A newly joined Green Mentor, Wang Leyue shared after the event: “The training of this project provides background introduction, course explanation and practical experience for entering schools. The entire training content was very interesting, and the explanation was wonderful. It was very helpful to volunteers who will participate in environmental lectures for the first time.”

In the future, Shanghai Roots & Shoots will ensure that volunteers carry out activities in an orderly manner by meeting pandemic prevention requirements, recording services for volunteers through the Shanghai Public Welfare platform, completing corresponding volunteer work, and helping volunteers take on the role of Green Mentors.
