On Sept 2, 2011 at 2 pm, Shanghai R&S staff Zheng Chen, Zheng Minying, and volunteer Zhou Yifan went to the Swire Limited Company in Shanghai. There, they trained employees to be mentors for their new semester’s green youth project (YES).

After the brief introduction, everybody played an ice-breaker game called “Signature Move”, which challenged both their memory and flexibility. Everyone relaxed and stretched during the game and introduce themselves to others with their “Signature Move”. It was a lively and relaxing atmosphere.

After the warm up, Zhou Yifan introduced R&S project by project, in chronological order using a powerpoint and video clips. He made a detailed introduction of the history, goal, and present situation of Shanghai R&S.

Next, Lu Yating made a mock lesson of the YES Project. She started with a phycological test called “Tree”. She then illustrated the importance of trees in our lives with a brainstorm – poems containing  the word “tree”. She ended the lesson with a little poem written by a primary school student. The poem was interesting.

After a ten minute break, Zhou Yifan introduced a communication game “Paper Ripping”. During the game, everybody realized the importance of mutual communication, and learned many tips and skills for efficient communication.

The following lecture was made by Zheng Chen on education skills. She combined the material with examples, and gave everyone tips on educating. This was an extremely useful lesson, especially for teachers. In the discussion, they drew up ideas on how to form lesson plans and the principles of forming lessons.

With happy chatting and a warm atmosphere, the training ended on a good note.
