Bringing a Unique Children’s Day Experience to Kids with CML

To help them have a happy, unforgettable Children’s Day, Shanghai Roots and Shoots volunteers discussed, planned, then sent out greeting cards and gifts to kids suffering from Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. They sent cards to the families of five children, all 16 years or under.

Many of these parents have not told their kids about their own health conditions. Due to this, us university volunteers could not get into contact and talk with the kids. We only talked on the phone with the kids’ parents to make sure the gifts would be sent correctly. We sent out all the gifts on the night before Children’s Day. Two days after, the parents sent us texts, notifying that the gifts were received and that they were very thankful. They also mentioned that they hoped we could provide mental support for their children when they are old enough to be able to accept the truth.

A little gift can bring a lot of gratitude. We hope that through small notions like this, we can depend on more people to care for leukemia patients so that they can face their diseases with a more positive outlook.
