Dragon Recycling | Our Community Recycling Day is back!

May.21.2020

The Dragon Recycling at Shanghai Roots & Shoots recently restarted its collaboration with the Chang’er Community in Changning District for an eco-friendly green lifestyle. On May 16th, the Dragon Recycling set up a Recycling Station while in last year, the Green Classrooms were introduced.

Volunteers at the Recycling Station in 2019

The Dragoon Recycling is an environmental protection-themed educational program initiated by Shanghai Roots & Shoots and it actively encourages the volunteers to build a greener community, raises the public’s awareness of environmental protection and focuses on city recycling.

In the Green Classroom last year, the volunteers taught the residents the correct way of garbage classification, i.e., kitchen waste, recyclable waste, toxic and polluting waste and other waste. Apart from that, the volunteers also shared other ways to deal with the wastes like a second-hand fair or a recycling program. The volunteers also guided the residents to make small wallets from abandoned back-drops.

At the Recycling Station last year, the volunteers introduced to the residents how to handle different types of garbage such as electronic waste, clothing waste, expired drugs and daily waster like toothpastes. In 2019, 144 items of daily waste (toothpastes, toothbrushes, etc.), 8.3 kilograms of electronic waste, 254 items of clothing waste and 5.68 kilograms of expired drugs were recycled in total and were sent to relevant environmental protection-organization, the drugs sent to the pharmacy. Now in 2020, 20 kilograms of electronic waste, 405 items of clothing waste, 15 pairs of shoes, 58 containers and 45 toothpastes, toothbrushes, etc. were recycled.

There will be two recycling days to come in the Chang’er Community. Shanghai Roots & Shoots shoulders its responsibility as an environmental protection-oriented organization and calls on the young people to build a greener community and a greener homeland.
